A(ndroid) Preface.

The year is 2003. Android Inc. is founded in Palo Alto, California by Andy Rubin, Nick Sears, Rich Miner and Chris White, their intention being to develop “smarter mobile devices that are more aware of its owner’s location and preferences”.

In it’s infancy Android was conceived as an advanced operating system to be used by digital cameras. Fortunately, though, for the sake of all present and future ” techies” it was realized that the market for digital cameras was stagnant. Thus Andy Rubin and company made the bold decision to shift their focus to “Smart phones”, the likes of which had already been realized by Symbian and Microsoft Windows Mobile.

Fast forward a few years. T-Mobile Launches it’s first Android powered Smartphone running Android 1.0 (Cupcake) The HTC Dream, or The T-Mobile G1. This first Android device is not what many of us would recognize as a Smartphone by todays standards. With a 3.2″ display at 180 PPI, a track ball and a slide out qwerty keyboard, the HTC G1 is outdated and “so 2009”. Did I mention it’s 192 MB of RAM? You have to crawl before you walk, I suppose. And in this respect, Android is now soaring.
